Energy rebound effect in China’s manufacturing sector: Fresh evidence from firm-level data

چکیده
The rebound effect refers to the phenomenon that individuals tend consume more energy in face of efficiency improvement, which reduces expected energy-saving effect. Previous empirical studies on regions and sectors do not provide microscopic evidence. To fill this gap, we use China’s firm-level data estimate manufacturing subsectors, providing a detailed picture across different 2001–2008. Results show partial robustly appears all industries, disparity between is quite broad, ranging from 43.2% 96.8%. As for dynamic most subsectors present an upward trend, whereas few clear downward trend. whole, declined trend driven by descent minority with high consumption potential. In addition, find significant than regions.

Firm Level Productivity and Exporting in the Uganda’s Manufacturing Sector
The role of exports in helping attain and sustain high rates of growth especially in the context of developing countries cannot be overemphasized. Exports usually tend to be associated with both static gains (resulting for instance from access to larger outside markets) as well as dynamic gains (including learning from exporting and productivity gains). With regard to the dynamic gains from tra...

The study, aimed at evaluating the likely effects of the EC Directive on late payments, provides direct evidence that interfirm credit received by Italian manufacturing firms is, if ever, only slightly more expensive than bank loans. An econometric exercise shows that financial determinants have a stronger impact on recorded credit and debt periods for larger firms, able to use trade credit to ...
متن کاملEvidence from Austrian Firm-Level Data
This paper provides an economic assessment of export credit guarantee commitments by the Austrian export credit agency, using firm-level data on a cross-section of 178 Austrian exporting firms for the year 2008. In a first step, we estimate the relative importance of various determinants of export guarantee usage. Results suggest that the most crucial determinants are: firm size, whether or not...
متن کاملAre African Manufacturing Firms Really Inefficient? Evidence from Firm-Level Panel Data
Three dimensions of the performance of firms in Ghana’s manufacturing sector are investigated in this paper: their technology and the importance of technical and allocative efficiency. We show that the diversity of factor choices is not due to a non-homothetic technology. Observable skills are not quantitatively important as determinants of productivity. Technical inefficiency is not lower in f...

Empirical studies have shown that the size distribution of firms can be described as a lognormal or Pareto distribution. However, these studies have focused on developed countries and little attention has been devoted to developing countries. Using the variable of number of employees as a measure of firm size, this paper investigates the shape of firm size distribution in the food & beverages i...
